Russia’s Rosatom plans to start construction of nuclear research center in Bolivia in Q2 2018

MOSCOW, September 27. /TASS/. Russia’s state-owned nuclear company Rosatom has started design works as part of the project to create a nuclear research and technology center in Bolivia as it plans to launch the construction in the second quarter of 2018, Rusatom International Network reported Wednesday. "We have started to develop design solutions within the construction of the Center of nuclear research and technologies in Bolivia. The Bolivian side will launch preparations for the construction in the near future. The plan is to start the construction already in the second quarter of 2018, and put into service the first facilities of the center in 2019," President of Rusatom Overseas Evgeny Pakermanov was quoted as saying. As was reported earlier, on March 6, 2016 Russia and Bolivia signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the area of peaceful use of nuclear energy and on cooperation in the construction of a nuclear research and technology center in the city of El Alto at an altitude of 4,100 meters above the sea level. The project estimated at $300 mln and aimed at assisting Bolivia on development of nuclear technologies to be used in the research sector, medicine, geology and agriculture, will be implemented jointly with Russia’s Rosatom and will be funded using the country’s own resources.
