Russia to attract India to NPP construction projects in third countries, says deputy minister

MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. Moscow is considering the possibility of attracting Indian companies to projects on construction of nuclear power plants in third countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said on Thursday. "There are prospects of attracting Indian companies to construction of the same facilities abroad, in third countries," he said. According to Morgulov, Russia is also ready to cooperate with India in the oil and gas sector. "We actively invite Indian businessmen to the Russian market for participating in the development of promising fields here, in Russia," he said. In March 2018, Russia’s state-run corporation Rosatom, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of the Republic of India signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the implementation of the Rooppur NPP (nuclear power plant) construction project in Bangladesh. As reported earlier the Russian side is building a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh on a ‘turnkey’ basis. The nuclear power plant will be located on the eastern bank of the Ganges River, 160 kilometers from the Bangladesh’s capital of Dhaka. Two units of the plant, with a capacity of 1,200 MW each, to be built with Russia’s assistance, are planned to be put into operation in 2022 and 2023. Read more
