Russia began to develop relations with China before complications with Western partners - Shuvalov

DAVOS. January 23./TASS/ Russia began to develop relations with China and Eastern countries long before the complications with the Western partners, said First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said on Friday at the Davos Economic Forum. "It's another myth that after sanctions were imposed and because the West is halting its cooperation with Russia, that now we are forced to cooperate with China. And that everything that we previously got from the west, we would try to get from the East, primarily from China," Shuvalov said. "That's not true. Long before all these events, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed me along with the Economic Development Ministry to develop relations in the eastern direction - that was in 2010" said Shuvalov. At the same time, Russian President bares no illusions when it comes to China. "It's not that we think that we'll immediately get in the East everything that we lose in the West. But, the West shouldn't think that it won't work for us in the East," Shuvalov warned. "We understand that China is a complicated partner, but with that partnership, come great opportunities," Shuvalov added. Read more
