Russia to built two power plants in Tabas

TEHRAN, Sep. 15 (MNA) – Iran’s minister of energy has announced a preliminary agreement with Russia to build 8 power plants, including two power plants in Tabas. Hamid Chitchian told Mehr News that Iran and Russia signed the agreement to build new thermal power plants and to modernize operating plants during a visit by Russian minister of energy to Tehran. “We have been working to prepare grounds for a $10bn partnership plan to design and build power plants and electricity transfer facilities between the two countries, and Iran welcomes Russian investment in Iran’s electricity industry,” Chitchian added. “Russians have announced capability to design, build, install and operate 2800 mega watts in new power plants; we demanded that Russian partner deliver its final proposal by the next month to the ministry of energy,” said the minister, “according to the agreement, four such power plants will be built in Bandar Abbas, two in Tabas, and the remaining two in Sahand New Township.” Chitchian also predicted possible building of two power plants in Tabriz by Russian cooperation. “In addition to power plant construction, Iran and Russia signed agreement for modernization of Iran’s older power plants still operating; Ahwaz’s Ramin and Isfahan’s Shahid Montazeri Power Plants are good candidates for full reconstruction and modernization by Russian technology,” he said.
