Russia, India cooperate actively in military-technical sphere - Russian delegation to Aero India 2015

BANGALORE, February 18. /TASS/. Russia and India have been cooperating fruitfully in the military-technical sphere for a long time, head of the Russian delegation to Aero India-2015 air show and exhibition deputy head of the federal authority on the military and technical cooperation Anatoly Punchuk said. "We may consider the current year a jubilee year, as the cooperation with India began in 1960. During the time since then, Russia has supplied to India arms and military equipment worth about $40 billion," he said. "During this time, our cooperation has been developing, gradually progressing from the buyer-seller level to a variable partnership in design of new technologies and in modernisation, in joint research, project and production." "Our relations have come to the level of close industrial cooperation, and nowadays we are not speaking already about only supplies of ready products. Implementation of the BrahMos programme is a proof of that," head of the Russian delegation said. "Since India’s government is working on localising military production at local enterprises, we plan lower supplies of final products from Russia. The focus will be on organisation in India of production of weapons and equipment of Russian design and on joint research," he said. "The Russian side is prepared to cooperation of the kind, which was confirmed at the Russia-India summit in December, 2014 and at the meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission on the military and technical cooperation."
