Russia-Vietnam trade turnover sets record, says PM Medvedev

MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. The Russian-Vietnamese trade turnover has reached a record level, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told a press conference following the talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Wednesday, adding that the countries have agreed to use national currencies in mutual settlements more actively. "We have noted good dynamics of our trade and economic cooperation as trade turnover has been on the rise over the past three years, both in 2017 and 2018. That is the record level for the whole post-Soviet period," he said. Medvedev said that he had agreed with his Vietnamese colleague "to proceed, continue efforts to diversify the structure of trade turnover through high technologies…, use national currencies more actively and boost counter capital investment flows." He also said that the two sides had reached an agreement to continue a wide-scale cooperation in industrial production, infrastructure, transport, electricity, oil and gas sector, industrial assembly and other fields. "We have agreed to ensure favorable conditions for efficient implementation of joint projects on the territory of our countries with participation of our companies, I mean Gazprom, Rosneft, Zarubezhneft and Novatek," he said. PM also urged to continue cooperation in the energy sector, saying that it is necessary to expand and diversify it, as well as launch new projects. The sides also noted that there are good opportunities to boost cooperation in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, he added. "Our companies are ready to supply up-to-date products to the Vietnamese market, and overall we have unique joint projects in the scientific and technical sphere," he said. Read more
