Russian President Vladimir Putin proposes to discuss creation of monetary union with Belarus and Kazakhstan

ASTANA, March 20. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin proposes to consider the issue of Russia’s creating a monetary union with Belarus and Kazakhstan in the future. "We think time has come to discuss the possibility of creating a currency union in the future," Vladimir Putin said after a meeting with his Belarus and Kazakh counterparts in Astana Friday. "It’s easier to respond to international financial and economic threats and protect our common market working shoulder to shoulder," he said. Earlier Russian President requested the Bank of Russia and Government to define further trends of integration in the currency and financial spheres within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) /it also comprises Armenia alongside the 3 countries/, "working out the viability and possibility of creating a currency union in the future." The President’s task should be fulfilled jointly with the central banks of the EEU member-states till September 1, 2015. Read more
