S. Korean firms exhibit tech prowess at MWC

SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Yonhap) -- Over 100 South Korean tech companies, including many small and midsized firms, are showing their advanced technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) now being held in Barcelona, Spain, a local trade agency said Tuesday. About 150 South Korean firms are taking part in the four-day event, marking the largest number of South Korean companies to do so, according to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The participating firms include Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest chipmaker and mobile phone supplier, and many other big South Korean names, such as SK hynix and LG Electronics. Some 100 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also taking part, with 22 SMEs joining the event as part of a Korea booth set up by KOTRA. "The MWC is considered one of the most practical IT business fairs, with about 2,200 companies and more than 100,000 visitors from around 200 countries expected to take part," KOTRA said in a press release. bdk@yna.co.kr (END)
