KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 (Bernama) -- Sandvik South East Asia Pte Ltd is ready to cater for deep sea drilling of over 3,000 metres with its umbilical tubing, Sandvik SAF 3207, said Regional Sales and Marketing Manager Oil & Gas, Asia Pacific Benno Wagner. The Sweden-based company has launched the tubing and is currently offering its expertise to projects in the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa. "We are ready for industry players," he said during a press conference after presenting the company's next generation high performance materials at the ongoing Oil and Gas Asia exhibition. Wagner said the two-day exhibition is a platform for the company to demonstrate its capabilities in leading corrosion resistant material solutions and present its next generation high-performance materials. The company has been developing and producing advanced stainless steel, special alloys, titanium and other high-performance materials for major fabricators and oil companies over the last 20 years in almost all offshore regions. Petronas, a Malaysian oil and gas company is a client of Sandvik which places more focus on this region. It also organises technical seminars for Petronas and updates them on its latest development, as well as, try to understand its need for the long run. Currently, Petronas is using two of Sandvik's products; Sandvik SAF 2205 (duplex material) and Sandvik SAF 2507 (super-duplex material). "Although this is a challenging situation with declining oil prices at the moment, we definitely see a growing demand for our products," he said, adding that as a region, Asia continued to grow in prominence as it held significant offshore oil and gas resources. With the current energy landscape where reserves are hanging in the balance, coupled with increasingly extreme environment it is important for the overall industry to work together in overcoming these challenges, he added. Earlier at the event, Petronas Chairman Sidek Hassan said the weak oil price provided an opportunity for industry players to collaborate more closely on creative ways to reduce the cost structure and continuously innovate to systematically make it more efficient, safe and green. --BERNAMA
