SCO countries considering opportunity of setting up economic preferences zones

XI’AN /China/, September 15. /TASS/. Member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are considering an opportunity of setting up an economic preferences zone, Executive Secretary of SCO Business Council Sergei Kanavsky told TASS on Tuesday. "Free zones are currently developing in many SCO member-states. These are advance development territories in Russia, free economic zones in Kazakhstan, free trade zones in China, and these zones have their specific abbreviations in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. We cover all these names by the term of economic preference zone at the SCO Business Council’s level," the executive secretary said. "An idea is to find points of contact between production facilities within the framework of these zones, so that to have a common system of interaction. This is the interaction between industrial parks and transportation-logistical zones. However, establishment of the specific economic preferences zone is a somewhat premature issue. We need to understand opportunities for interaction of free zones within the SCO framework," Kanavsky said. Read more
