SEC To Minimise Impact Of Economic Issues, Says PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The formation of the Special Economic Committee (SEC) is to minimise the impact of any arising economic issues towards the economy, said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. In a Facebook posting on Wednesday, he said, while the economic factors abroad were beyond Malaysia's influence, the situation within the country must be managed effectively. The committee, which would be chaired by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Abdul Wahid Omar, would report directly to him. "While our economic fundamentals are strong, I am concerned of the current developments in the global financial markets and the impact of the developments on our economy and on the lives of all Malaysians. "The SEC will meet weekly to minimise as much as possible the impact of any arising economic issues so that our economy will continue to prosper," Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said. --BERNAMA
