Second Map Ta Phut Port opens in July

BANGKOK, June 18 (TNA) - A second Map Ta Phut Industrial Port is scheduled to open in July and is expected to facilitate sea transportation between Thailand and fellow members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and also cater investment of the government-sponsored Eastern Economic Corridor Development Project (EEC). Veerapong Chaiperm, governor of Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, said the port is projected to boost the country’s competitiveness and would also assist logistics development which would ultimately enable Thailand to become transportation and logistics hub in this region. The port is considered significant because it would help drive investment in the EEC and simultaneously connect trade and investment between Thailand and neighbouring countries, Mr. Veerapong said. Also, the port would help connect with the three existing industrial ports including Map Ta Phut, Sattahip and Laem Chabang, he said. The length of the second Map Ta Phut Industrial Port is about 1.024 kilometres while the depth is 12 metres and could cater cargo ship with the maximum of 60,000 deadweight tonnes. The port is equipped with four piers.
