Shahid Rajaie Port To Turn Into Biggest Cotton Transit Terminal In Central Asia

Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan Prov., April 24, IRNA – Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas will turn into the biggest cotton transit terminal in Central Asia once the offloading and onloading unit is established by the private sector. Head of the Ports and Shipping Office in Hormuzgan Province Ali Estiri told reporters on Tuesday that the unit will cover an area of 15 hectares with 6-kilometer railway tacks. Estiri said three kilometers of railroad tracks has already been complete and the project on the remaining three kilometers has thus far shown a 40 percent progress. He said the project costs 280b rials and the facility would run with the capacity of on-loading or offloading 800,000 tons of cotton a year. He added that the cotton transit capacity will increase three folds once the project is complete. The goods, consisting of cotton, minerals, mazott, chemical fertilizers, oil derivatives and aluminum, as well as bulk of dried products of Central Asia, will be destined to the Southeast Asian and Persian Gulf states./end
