Share Trade Resumes Marked With Increase In Index

Jakarta, Jan 2 (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reopened the share market on Friday marked with a 0.13 percent increase in the Jakarta composite index after year-end and new year holiday on Wednesday and Thursday. The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 6.85 points to 5,233.80 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.19 percent to 900.31 points. The reopening ceremony was attended by Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo, Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, Chairman of the Financial Service Authority (OJK) Muliaman Hadad, and President Director of BEI Ito Warsito. Muliaman said the reopening of the market by the president is expected to give greater spirit and stronger commitment of the market players this year. "Thanks to support from the government and synergy between Bank Indonesia and the House of Representatives , the Indonesia stock market recorded a positive performance in 2014," he said. He said in 2014, the BEI index grew 22.3 percent, or one of the highest in Asia surpassing Singaporean, Thai and Malaysian indices. He said he oped the positive market performance in 2014 could provide a boost for the country`s economy amid the host of global challenges.
