Shippers request NCPO to reform Thai economy

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - The Thai National Shipper’s Council (TNSC) plans to request the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to undertake an economic reform to boost Thai exports and the national economy. TNSC President Nopporn Thepsittha told reporters on Friday that the TNSC is prepared to discuss with the military junta and to submit five proposed measures on the national economic restructuring. Nopporn said that the proposed measures include speeding up reforming government economic agencies in an integrated manner, revising relevant laws and regulations which post obstacle to businesses and paying attention to mapping research and development plans to help strengthen confidence among oversea trading partners. The TNSC chief's remarks were made following a decline by 0.97 per cent year-on-year in Thailand’s exports during the first four months of this year. Meanwhile, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) projected that the national economy should grow less than 2.7 per cent in 2014, but positive signs after the May 22 military coup, staged by the NCPO, should bear fruits for the national economy next year.
