Signs of Thailand's economic recovery

BANGKOK, April 22 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak says that there are positive signs inside and outside the country showing the recovery of the national economy. Somkid, who oversees economic affairs, told journalists of the positive prospect on April 21, acknowledging the rising Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) and Thai exports last month. Somkid pointed out that the Chinese and South Korean economies have been recovering, which have positive impacts on Southeast Asian economies. Besides, the Thai government's new investment projects have been gradually started, while officials of the US-based World Bank are gathering data in Thailand for its evaluation on business facilitation in the country, the factors of which should help boost confidence in the Thai economy among international investors. Somkid revealed that the government, universities and the private sector are also trying to develop new entrepreneurs who have applied innovations to their products, which should also strengthen the Thai private sector. According to the deputy premier, the Thai Cabinet will consider a bill on land and building taxation next week to create the balance of government revenues, after the government recently decided to cut many items of personal income taxes. "The new land and building taxation law should take effect next year and would not create a heavy burden on people who would buy their first residence", said the Thai deputy premier. (TNA)
