Singapore To Host Summit To Formulate Asean's Insurance Industry Blueprint

By Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah SINGAPORE, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Insurance leaders and regulators are converging here to cast light on the blueprint for the Asean Economic Community's insurance industry at the inaugural Asean Insurance Summit on Oct 1. About 250 leaders and senior executives from the Asean insurance industry and related services will compare notes on their preparations as the region moves towards integration in 2015. Organised by the Asean Insurance Council, the summit to be held at Marina Bay Sands, aims to prepare Asean insurance leaders and practitioners for the ramifications of the integration of their business activities. The summit themed “Asean Economic Community 2015 – Opportunities and Challenges for the Insurance Industry” is also aimed at helping insurers to capitalise on opportunities presented by the integration, the council said in a statement. The summit will also enable the participants to voice their opinions in the policymaking process of the Asean Economic Community. Singapore Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang will deliver the official keynote address while Asean Deputy Secretary-General for the Asean Economic Community Dr. Lim Hong Hin will present the Asean Secretariat's keynote address. The speakers include Bank Negara Malaysia Financial Sector Development Department Director Aznan Abdul Aziz, Prudential Corporation Asia Chairman Donald Kanak, International Insurance Society President and Chief Executive Officer Michael J. Morrisey, Université Paris-Dauphine Professor of Law Prof Arnaud Raynouard, and Nippon Life Insurance Company General Manager, International Affairs Makoto Okubo. -- BERNAMA
