Singapore Keen To Invest In Indonesia's Maritime Infrastructure

Jakarta, Nov 27 (Antara) - Singapore has evinced interest to invest in the maritime infrastructure development in Indonesia, Foreign Ministry`s spokesman Machael Tene stated here on Thursday. "The Singaporean government has expressed interest to participate in the Indonesian government`s efforts to develop its infrastructure, especially maritime infrastructure," he noted. He remarked that Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi had recently visited Singapore and met her Singaporean counterpart K. Shanmugam "as part of a biannual inter-foreign ministerial meeting to review bilateral relations and improve cooperation." During the meeting, the two ministers also discussed efforts and opportunities to boost cooperation, especially in trade and infrastructure development. "The two ministers have discussed opportunities for economic cooperation, including in trade, by exploring Indonesian agricultural products that have the potential to be marketed in Singapore," he affirmed. Tene said that the discussion also explored the opportunity of Singaporean investment in Indonesia, including in marine infrastructure development, which is currently being promoted by the Indonesian government. "It still needs to be further discussed in line with the vision and mission of the current government of President Joko Widodo," he stated. Indonesia is currently striving to boost international cooperation with regard to developing its infrastructure and maritime sector, which will be the priority of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla`s government. President Joko Widodo has conveyed his intention to increase international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum summit in China, the ASEAN summit in Myanmar, and the G20 summit in Australia. On the sidelines of the summits, President Joko Widodo also held bilateral talks with several heads of state or government to discuss efforts to increase cooperation in the two areas. Several countries involved in the talks to increase cooperation in maritime and infrastructure development were China, Germany, Russia, Australia, and the United States..
