Social media reports of fake 1,000-baht bills are old ones, BoT says

BANGKOK, August 12 (TNA) - The Bank of Thailand (BoT) clarified that reports on fake 1,000-baht bills that circulated on social media were old and officials gathered only about 100 of such notes. BoT spokesman Chirathep Seniwong Na Ayutthaya said the reports on 1,000-baht fake banknotes with the serial number of 9A 3828862 had been released in July last year and the central bank had already clarified the issue this April. He said that the amount of the counterfeit notes was limited, only about 100 bills being found, and they were first spotted in the South and then spreaded to other areas. Mr Chirathep advised people to notice the watermarks of banknotes and 3D sheens and not to pay much attention to the serial number which could be changed. Besides, authentic notes are more durable than counterfeit ones, he said. (TNA)
