Sophisticated Logistics, Ports Attract China Investors To Johor Halal Industry Hub

JOHOR BAHARU (Johor, Malaysia), July 15 (Bernama) -- The sophisticated logistics and port facilities were among factors that attracted China's investors to the halal industry hub in the state. Johor State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee Chairman, Tee Siew Kiong, said in addition to the state's strategic location, another factor was the halal certificates which were recognised worldwide and these provided a platform for them to sell their halal products. "They are interested in marketing the halal products here and in other Islamic countries as Malaysia's halal certificates are recognised worldwide. "The Chinese investors see this as a good opportunity to penetrate the global halal market, which now has a Muslim population reaching 1.2 billion," he told reporters here Thursday. Tee said this after briefing delegations from China's Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and Asean Cooperation Office of Zhuang Autonomous Region. Also present were representatives from Johor State Economic Planning Unit, Johor State Investment Centre and Iskandar Regional Development Authority, Johor Port, Port of Tanjung Langsat, Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Port Pengerang. Malaysia's southern state Johor also has between four and ten active ports which would benefit the investors in the state, Tee said. He said Malaysian entrepreneurs eyeing to sell their products in China, should use the ports in Johor as a platform. --BERNAMA
