Southeast Sulawesi To Open New Ferry Route

Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, July 15 - Southeast Sulawesi will open a new ferry link between the main land and a small island in the province. The Raha-Pure ferry route will be operational in August, the head of the regional transport service, Burhanuddin HS Noy, said here on Monday. Burhanuddin said earlier ferry links were already opened between Baubau and Siompo and between Kasipute and Dongkala. Southeast Sulawesi has a number of small islands that need ferry service, he said. "The three new ferry routes will add to the Tampo-Torobulu, Kabaena -Mawasangka, Baubau-Waara, and Kendari-Wawonii routes in the province," he said. There are also ferry routes to link Southwest Sulawesi and neighboring province of South Sulawesi including the Kolaka-Bajoe, Lasusua-Siwa and Tondasi-Bira routes, he said. He said more ferry routes would be opened to provide links to isolated communities in small islands in the province . "One ferry route being developed is between Labuan in the main land and Amolengo on the island of Buton," he said.
