Special oil and gas zone for Khuzestan

Tehran, Jan 3, IRNA -- Establishment of a Special Oil and Gas Zone in Khuzestan Province will be an advantage for the local economy, head of board of directors of the association of manufacturers of oil, gas and petrochemical equipment of the province Ali Karani said. Speaking to shana.ir, Karani said presidential office department for science and technology has approved the decision asking for accelerating the initiative. According to the official, oil companies, universities, science and technology parks as well as industry, mines and trade organization of the province are expected to take part in advancement of the project. He said that a working group comprising representatives of scientific and technology department of presidency, industrial towns, NIDC, Khuzestan governorate and other related institutions are scheduled to take part in a meeting which will be hosted by the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). “This kind of oil and gas zone will be established in the country for the first time and regarding its proximity to Iraq, existence of ports and too much trade potentials could have a positive impact on the economic activities in the province”, he concluded./end
