S'pore Hotel Industry Expert Panel Outlines Sustainable Growth Plan

Tengku Noor Shamsiah Tengku Abdullah SINGAPORE, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Singapore Productivity Centre (SPC), Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Singapore Tourism Board (STB) today revealed initiatives to support sustainable growth for the Singapore hotel industry. The initiatives include showcasing successful case studies of how hotels have implemented projects to raise productivity, highlighted in the Hotel Industry Expert Panel Report launched Tuesday. Established by STB, the panel comprises overseas experts and local industry representatives. “The Singapore hotel industry has seen sustained growth with value add per worker achieving a compound annual growth rate of 5.8 per cent from 2010 to 2014," STB chief executive Lionel Yeo said. But amidst the slowdown in manpower growth, the hotel industry is facing a shortage of manpower, and the report highlights the need to shift away from manpower-driven growth to productivity-driven growth through innovation, he added. The report emphasises the need to innovate across three key areas -- process, service and manpower. -- BERNAMA
