Survey:Foreign business operators are confident in Thai junta

BANGKOK, August 21 (TNA) - A latest survey showed that foreign business operators in Thailand have gained more confidence in the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), three months after it took control of the national administration on May 22. Kiatanan Luankaew, Director of Bangkok-based Dhurakij Pundit's Research Centre, on Thursday cited the latest survey conducted on 660 Chinese, Japanese, South Korean, Indian and Malaysian business operators in Thailand, which found that 88 per cent of them have gained more confidence in the NCPO, only 8.6 per cent of them have unchanged and 3.2 per cent have dropped their confidence in the Thai junta. Kiatanan revealed that out of the total 10 points, the NCPO scored 8.62 points on average and, unsurprisingly, the NCPO scored most with 8.8 points in transparency. On confidence in the NCPO in solving domestic political problem over the past three months, 82 per cent of the surveyed foreign business operators said their confidence have increased, 14 per cent have unchanged and 3 per cent have dropped their confidence. Japanese business operators showed their confidence in the Thai junta most with 83 per cent, followed by their Chinese and Indian counterparts. Most of the respondents, or 83 per cent of them, suggested that the junta be flexible on organising Thailand's new general election, and that the most appropriate period for holding the next general election be between two-and-a-half year and three-year. The foreign business operators also projected that the Thai economy should grow by 2.7 per cent this year and 3.58 per cent next year and five Thai areas, including agriculture, food business, tourism, vehicles and health service should grow most over the next five years.
