TCC:Postponement of general election not affect Thailand's economic prospect

BANGKOK, January 26 (TNA) - The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) says that the postponement of the country's general election for only a few months should not affect the national economic prospect. TCC Chairman Kalin Sarasin made the assessment on Friday, in response to media reports that Thailand's new general election is likely to be adjourned to early next year, from the government's tentative schedule set by late this year. Kalin explained that the Thai government's economic stimulus measures have been on progress and should keep the national economy moving forward despite the few-month postponement of the new general election. The TCC chairman also projected that Thai exports should grow by 6 per cent year-on-year in 2018, when the number of international visitors to the Thai Kingdom should reach 37 million, the two major factors of which should sustain the national economic recovery. Besides, the Thai government's measures on easing negative impacts from its new minimum wage hike, effective from April 1, 2018, on both the business sector and consumers should maintain the expanding national economy, while the new wage hike should raise income and purchasing power of local grassroots.
