Terminal 2 at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport officially opened

BANGKOK, March 8 (TNA) - The terminal 2 at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport has been officially opened, expected to boost the airport's capacity to be able to cater up to 30 million passengers annually, from 29 million passengers currently. Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn told journalists that Monday's official opening of Terminal 2 at Don Mueang Airport coincided with the 102nd anniversary of the operation of the airport. Nitinai explained that there is a need for the expansion, as the Don Mueang Airport previously served 620 flights daily on average, which exceeded its capacity. Nitinai said it is hoped that Don Mueang Airport could, from now on, earn more from non-aviation businesses amounting about one billion baht yearly, up some 20 per cent. According to the AOT chief, plans are also being made to undertake the phase 3 development of the Don Mueang Airport, in which a junction terminal will be constructed to link with public transportation networks in nearby areas. Besides, a parking lot which accommodate more than 3,000 cars will be constructed. Meanwhile, Prasong Poontaneat, AOT Board Chair, foresaw that upon the completion, the Don Mueang Airport should cater up to about 40 million passengers annually. (TNA)
