Thai AirAsia to launch Bangkok-Naypidaw route by year-end

BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - Thai AirAsia, a growing low-cost airline in the region, plans to launch a new direct route from Bangkok to Myanmar's capital, Naypyidaw, and vice versa in October 2013, to timely serve athletes and passengers joining in the next Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), hosted by Myanmar in December 2013. Thai AirAsia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tassapon Bijleveld told journalists on Wednesday that Thai AirAsia is seeking an official approval to provide direct flights for passengers from Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport to Naypyidaw's airport. The Thai AirAsia CEO stressed, as the 27th SEA Games is approaching, the new route is believed to facilitate Thai athletes and those who plan to participate in the regional sport event. According to the CEO, Thai AirAsia has targeted to keep expanding its routes in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is scheduled to be formed by 2015, with expanding regional travels.
