Thai business operators urged to expand investment overseas

BANKGOK, October 5 (TNA) - The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) has encouraged Thai business operators to expand their investment overseas, particularly in such neighbouring economies as Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia, citing their market attractiveness. BOI Deputy Secretary-General Vassana Mututanont told reporters Friday that her agency will promote more Thai investment projects in the three neighbouring countries, in particular, over the next three to five years, in the forms of direct investment and takeover of domestic firms. According to the BOI deputy chief, during 2007-2012 Thai business operators have expanded their investment projects into Myanmar most, worth 5.97 billion US dollars, followed by Singapore, worth 3.7 billion US dollars, and Hong Kong, worth 2.64 billion US dollars, with most projects being in the fields of mining, oil drilling, fishery, seafood and retail and wholesale businesses, but agriculture, food processing, tourism and services being the fields Thai businesses found most successful.
