Thai Businessmen Encouraged To Invest In Japan

BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) - The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) has asked the Board of Investment (BOI) of Thailand to encourage Thai businessmen to invest in Japan especially in renewable energy and service sectors. According to BOI secretary-general Udom Wongviwatchai, BOI and JETRO are exchanging information to promote overseas investment. He said that Thai investors can enter renewable energy businesses in Japan because many nuclear power plants have been closed there. Udom commented that the renewable energy industry of Thailand is quite advanced and some Thai operators are building solar farms in Japan. The BOI secretary-general also views that Thai businesspeople have potential to enter the service sector in Japan to meet demands from locals and tourists there. He referred to hotel, spa and Thai restaurant businesses and said Japan has confidence in the service sector of Thailand. Udom noted that Japan is a destination of large-scaled investors as it requires huge investment. Regarding Japanese investment in Thailand, the BOI is implementing its ‘Thailand Plus One’ campaign which means that Japanese businesspeople are encouraged to invest in Thailand and one of its neighboring country in labor-intensive industries. Udom said that Japanese investors are increasingly turning to this investment approach. The BOI secretary-general also recommended Thai businesspeople invest in Eastern Europe where labour is cheap and they can manufacture products for convenient sales in the European Union. (TNA)
