Thai cuisine resorted to promote domestic tourism

BANGKOK, December 25 (TNA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in cooperation with the private sector, is resorting to the Thai cuisine to attract more international tourists to local communities across the country. Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat told journalists on Tuesday that the opening of food houses in local communities nationwide where unique and quality local dishes cooked by professional chefs to serve locals and international tourists should not only promote and publicize the traditional wisdom of Thai cuisine in separate areas, but should also raise the income of locals in the targeted areas towards their sustainable development, growth and happiness in the long run. Supattanapong Punmeechaow, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), a subsidiary of PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), said that the expanding community chef project was first launched by his company in Rayong Province last year with a success in terms of generating more income and attracting more international tourists to the eastern Thai province, including newly-introduced community tourist sites. The GC top executive acknowledged that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has, thus, developed and invited 30 community chefs from all Thai regions to work for the project. Meanwhile, the minister and the GC top executive led a famous chef and about other 30 selected community chefs from all Thai regions to visit the Government House in Bangkok on Tuesday morning, prior to the Cabinet's weekly meeting, to cook community dishes to serve Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha and his Cabinet members as part of the promotion of the project widely.
