Thai DPM: Single gateway won't centralise Internet control

BANGKOK, September 30 (TNA) - The single international Internet gateway idea of the Thai government will not centralise control but will only integrate supervision to ensure everyone's equal rights. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong clarified the policy on Wednesday, noting that the Cabinet has assigned the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to implement the idea and relevant committees have been formed to study the implementation in various contexts. The deputy premier told journalists that he thought opponents had misunderstandings and should wait for those studies to be concluded first, expected by the end of this year. The deputy prime minister acknowledged that CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (CAT), which participates in the studies, assured that the idea is practical and, with the government's supervision, the big and single gateway should improve services and cut costs. Denying with the single gateway, Internet services in Thailand could collapse completely, the deputy prime minister explained that single gateway does not mean there would be only one way, but it, actually, has many meanings; so, everyone should not mistake it for a bottleneck, as for the policy, it only means integrated supervision that will give equal right to everyone and cut costs, which should benefit service users.
