Thai DPM:Domestic consumption, investment have been on the rise

BANGKOK, October 18 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, says that the domestic consumption and investment have kept expanding at a satisfactory level. The deputy prime minister made the remarks in Bangkok on October 17 amid impacts of such risk factors as the rising world oil prices, a remaining slowdown of global economies, including China, and the ongoing trade war between the United States and China. The Thai deputy premier, thus, suggested that more measures be implemented late this year to further promote the domestic tourism, a key factor for generating the national economic growth, along with the sound expanding domestic investment and consumption. The deputy prime minister pointed out that the domestic investment, consumption and tourism, if expanding well, could offset or ease negative impacts on the growing Thai economy from the risk factors. "Small countries, including Thailand, may be affected by the risk factors much more than larger countries with stronger economic safety-net systems", the deputy prime minister cautioned. (TNA)
