Thai employment remains stable amid Eurozone crisis

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - Director-General for Labour Protection and Welfare Department Arthit Ismo said Monday Thailand’s employment remains stable amid the continued Eurozone debt crisis. Arthit said although latest data indicates that the volume of purchase orders from Europe has dropped by five percent, domestic employment remain unaffected. According to the senior labour official, average monthly job gain remains at 10,000 persons, similar to the average monthly lay-off rate. Arthit, however, said export enterprises, particularly in Leam Chabang and Lamphun Industrial Estates, are urged to prepare supportive measures for their workers, just in case the situation in Eurozone deteriorates. If any firm has to make job cuts, it should focus on young employees as they have better chances to find a new job, he said. Arthit also assured that the Eurozone debt crisis will not affect Thai economy as bad as the US subprime mortgage crisis. (TNA)
