Thai exports expected to keep growing in 2014

BANGKOK, September 29 (TNA) - The Ministry of Commerce has projected that Thai exports should continue to grow this year, despite at a slight year-on-year expansion due to a slowdown in the global economic recovery. Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director-General of the ministry's Department of International Trade Promotion, made the assessment on Monday, saying the value of Thai exports should increase by 0.5-1 per cent on average this year. Nuntawan pointed out although the value of Thai exports during the first eight months of this year stood at about 150.54 billion US dollars, a drop by 1.36 per cent year-on-year, and the world economic recovery has been slower than earlier expected, there are great demand for Thai products to boost Thai export growth during the rest of this year. The value of Thai imports during the first eight months of this year stood at 150.26 billion US dollars, a fall by 12.69 per cent year-on-year, making Thailand post a trade surplus of about 280 million US dollars during the January-August 2014 period.
