Thai industrialists urged to apply innovations

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, has called on local industrialists to further improve their products through innovations by investing more on research and development (R&D). Somkid made the call on Wednesday while presiding over a ceremony to present the Prime Minister’s Industry Award 2015 in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok. Somkid pointed out that the industrial sector accounts for about 40 per cent of Thailand's gross domestic product (GDP) and creates employment and national future. The deputy prime minister stressed that there is now a need for the Thai industrial sector to further develop so that its products can compete on the world market, advising that local industrialists should, thus, invest more on R&D. Besides, local business operators have to manufacture products with lower costs and better quality having potential to serve global supply chains, while adopting an e-commerce system for use in selling their products, supported by concerned government agencies. Most importantly, the deputy premier suggested, Thai business operators must be responsible for the world by, for instance, helping solve the problem of illegal workers. (TNA)
