Thai petrochemical industry to become regional leader

BANGKOK, May 22 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has introduced operational and investment strategy, named “Chemicals For Life”, for its petrochemical cluster, aimed to develop and promote the Thai petrochemical industry to be a leading one in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the future. Boworn Wongsin-udom, Chair of FTI's Petrochemical Cluster, told journalists of the target, which is part of his cluster's Vision 2020. Under the strategy, Boworn said, production technologies and management will be further developed for Thai petroleum refineries for the sake of national security in fuel production in the long run, as well as efficient energy consumption and fair use of energy. Boworn noted that the strategy is also aimed to create confidence in Thailand's energy sector among international investors and to boost the competitiveness of the Thai energy sector globally. Besides, Thailand's eco-industry will be promoted, along with further developing standards of Thai energy products through quality test centers and supporting domestic consumption of alternative energy and long-term development of personnel potential in the local energy sector. FTI's petrochemical cluster comprises of petroleum refineries, along with the petrochemical, plastic and chemistry industries. (TNA)
