Thai PM arrives in Cambodia

SIEM REAP, July 13 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra arrived in Cambodia Friday afternoon for a one-day visit and is scheduled to have bilateral talks with Myanmar and Cambodian leaders before attending a US-ASEAN business seminar. After arriving in Cambodia's Siem Reap Province at 3pm local time, Yingluck first had bilateral talks with Myanmar President Thein Sein, followed by a meeting with her Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen. Yingluck is also scheduled to have bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Friday evening, before delivering her keynote speech and having dinner with business operators from the United States and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In her speech, Yingluck will reportedly emphasize on Thailand's roles in the 10-member ASEAN and her government policy to promote connections within the 10-nation bloc and the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. The Thai prime minister will also reportedly mention Thailand’s financial support for the construction of roads in the region and for the development of the ASEAN Single Window, which is expected to be complete within this year, and will urge the United States to increase its investment in ASEAN as well. Meanwhile, Sek Wannamethee, Deputy Director-General of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department or Information, said that the Thai premier might seek Phnom Penh's assistance for Veera Somkwamkid and Ratree Pipattanapaibul, two Thai activists who have been detained at Cambodia’s Prey Sar Prison, during her talks with Hun Sen.(TNA)
