Thai tourism grows nearly 16% in 1q

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - The Thai tourism has been growing, with a nearly 16 per cent year-on-year expansion in the first quarter of this year. Pornchai Thiraveja, Deputy Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO), under the Thai Ministry of Finance, told journalists on Monday that the domestic tourism grew 15.5 per cent year-on-year during the January-March 2016 period. Pornchai said that Thailand's foreign direct investment (FDI) also jumped 115.8 per cent year-on-year to 8 billion US dollars in 2015, from 3.7 billion US dollars in 2014. Besides, the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) has approved new promotional projects, worth about 700 billion baht. (TNA)
