THAIFEX expected to further boost Thai food exports

BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA) - The THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016 Fair is organized at the IMPACT Trade and Exhibition Center in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok during May 25-29, expected to further boost Thai food exports this year. Opening the THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016 Fair on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, predicted that Thai food exports should grow by 10 per cent this year. Somkid said the 10 per cent-growth target was based on the facts that Thai food products have become internationally-popular and the Thai government is supporting local food business operators in raising the value of their food products. Somkid acknowledged that the Thai food industry has high potential with local food products having been exported to more than 200 countries worldwide. The deputy prime minister pointed out that many Thai food export items are among the world's top five exports in terms of value, referring to rice, processed chicken, canned and processed seafood, frozen and processed shrimps and food seasonings. According to the deputy prime minister, the value of exported Thai food and processed farm products exceeds 800 billion baht annually. The deputy premier foresaw that about 30 government agencies, private businesses and schools should sign an agreement on May 27 to jointly develop food innovations. The deputy premier also assessed that the value of business deals and retail in the THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016 should reach 9 billion baht, compared to 8.2 billion baht last year, thanks to the improving economies of Thailand's trading partners. The THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016 Fair is divided into two parts, the first one is for business negotiation during May 25-27 and the second one for international visitors during May 28-29. (TNA)
