Thailand’s business environment impresses World Bank

BANGKOK, May 16 (TNA) – The government’s efforts to improve business environment for the sustainable development of the country and the region impress the World Bank.

Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said Ulrich Zachau, the World Bank Director for Regional Partnerships, Malaysia, and Thailand, expressed the satisfaction during his meeting with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

In the meeting, the prime minister praised the World Bank for its close cooperation with Thailand and asked the World Bank to help the country solve problems about income distribution, Lt Gen Werachon said.

He also quoted Gen Prayut as promising to maintain Thailand’s cooperation with the World Bank to further improve business environment to support the sustainable development of the country and the region.

The World Bank’s director expressed gratitude towards the government for letting it take part in development projects in Thailand. He also praised the government for better business facilitation which resulted in Thailand’s 26th position in the World Bank’s Doing Business rankings in 2018, up from the 46th position in 2017.

“The World Bank’s director also praised the prime minister and the government for continuously improving their work and implementing policies to support Thai economic development. They include law amendments for business facilitation, infrastructure projects, the Thailand 4.0 policy, the Eastern Economic Corridor, and educational reform. These will support the continuous progress of Thailand,” Lt Gen Werachon said. (TNA)
