Thailand’s domestic automobiles sales forecast to reach 1 mln in 2014

BANGKOK, January 10 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries’s Automotive Industry Club estimates that Thailand’s domestic automobiles sales should slightly exceed 1 million units this year. Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman of the Automotive Industry Club, told reporters on Friday that sales volume should reach between 100,000a and 120,000 units monthly. He said domestic automobiles sales rose in December last year and reached over 110,000 units after the volume had fallen below 100,000 units for several months. Surapong said the domestic market’s situation has now returned to normal after the government's first-car buyer scheme ended and the market will now be driven by promotional campaigns and innovation. Surapong said about 2.5 million automobiles would be produced locally throughout this year and this year’s export ratio of the overall vehicle production is projected at 52-54 per cent, the same level as in 2010.
