Thailand expects Russian investment in Eastern Economic Corridor to rise, says foreign minister

BANGKOK, July 30. /TASS/. Bangkok expects Russian investors to reinforce participation in projects within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development plan, Thailand’s Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said following the talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday. "We discussed all issues related to the bilateral relationship. We are satisfied with the increase in trade turnover. We also expect investments in the Eastern Economic Corridor to rise," he said, adding that "there are certain projects for Russian investors to participate in." The diplomat also expressed hope that co-operative activities and exchange of visits between the two countries will intensify. The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) is one of the Thai government’s core projects in three eastern provinces of Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong. Its aim is to drive the country’s investment in up-lifting innovation and advanced technology. The planned investment in EEC stands at $51.9 bln, with private investment expected at $42.7 bln.
