Thailand export grows 12.3 per cent

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) -- Thailand’s exports in April grew 12.3 percent higher than the previous month, climbing for 14 straight months, the latest figure from the Commerce Ministry shows. Pimchanok Vonkorpon, Director General of the Ministry's Trade Policy and Strategy Office, revealed Tuesday that the country shipped custom-cleared goods worth US$18.94 billion in April. The Ministry projected export volume to reach or exceed the target of 8 percent this year, she said. Shipments of cars and parts, computers and accessories, and agro-industry led all the sectors, she said. With the help of online platform, durian export to China alone jumped over 770 percent in the month of April, Ms Pimchanok noted. Half of the total durian export of 120,000 tons was sent to the Chinese market in April. The imports in April totaled US$20.22, a 20.36 percent increase from the same month of 2017, resulting in a deficit of US$12.8 billion, said Ms Pimchanok.
