Thailand to export Mahachanok mangoes to SKorea

BANGKOK, November 30 (TNA) - Thailand plans to export locally-grown Mahachanok mangoes to South Korea, where Thai chicken exports are also now welcome. Thai Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister General Chatchai Sarikulya told journalists of the plan on Tuesday night, after returning from a visit to South Korea. General Chatchai said the processes to certify Thai Mahachanok mangoes are under way and it is expected that Thailand will be able to export the mango variety to South Korea soon. During his recent trip to South Korea, General Chatchai noted, he met South Korea’s Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Kim Jae-Soo and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on expanding bilateral cooperation on agricultural issues between Seoul and Bangkok. Under the MOU, the minister revealed, both South Korea and Thailand will exchange information and organise seminars and conferences on issues of mutual interests. According to the minister, South Korea has already reopening its door for Thai chicken exports, after having banned imports of Thai frozen chicken over the past several years due to impacts from bird flu outbreaks.
