Thailand Govt To Contribute 2.027 Bln Baht To AIIB

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, May 25 (Bernama) -- As a founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Thailand will contribute 2.027 billion baht (1 baht=US$0.027) to the bank. A government spokesman, Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd, said the decision was made during the weekly cabinet meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha Tuesday. "As one of the founding members of AIIB, it showed Thailand's capacity and image as an attractive investment country. "The contribution to AIIB will be drawn from this year's central budget while the bank's first annual meeting is scheduled for next month in Beijing," he told reporters at the Government House after the cabinet meeting. AIIB is the initiative of Beijing with the aim to support infrastructure development in the Asian region. -- BERNAMA
