Thailand hopes to be withdrawn from US-PWL in 2016

BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Commerce, will take more action against pirated goods and violators of intellectual property so that Thailand should be removed from the United States' Priority Watch List (PWL), expected in 2016. Malee Chokelamlert, Director-General of the ministry's Department of Intellectual Property, told journalists that her department will soon discuss with Commerce Minister General Chatchai Sarikalya on more measures to be implemented to enable Thailand to be withdrawn from Washington's PWL. Malee insisted that the Thai government has amended relevant laws to improve intellectual property protection and has worked together with the US Trade Representative (USTA) Office on providing information for patent inspectors and on investigating of online intellectual property violations. Recently, the US government decided on maintaining Thailand on its PWL in 2015, the eight consecutive year, and proposed that Washington take part in the country's procedures on the issuance of amended laws on intellectual property protection.
