Thailand likely to earn Bt21b tourism-related revenues during Mother's Day celebrations

BANGKOK, August 10 (TNA) - Thailand is expected to earn up to about 21 billion baht from tourism-related revenues during the upcoming Mother Day's celebrations. Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkura made the projection on Wednesday, reasoning that there should be about 1.1 million travelers nationwide during this coming long weekend, August 12-14, marking the Mother's Day celebrations 2016. Kobkarn told journalists that 800,000 out of the anticipated 1.1 million travelers should be Thais, while the rest should be foreign visitors. Kobkarn also assessed that the foreign visitors should mostly contribute to Thailand's tourism-related revenues during the period, or 17.5 billion baht out of the total 21 billion baht, while the rest should be contributed by Thai travelers. The minister said her ministry has, thus, sought cooperation from local tourist police and all other relevant parties to fully facilitate and provide security for the Thai and foreign travelers nationwide. Mother's Day in Thailand falls on every August 12, which is also the birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Meanwhile, a half marathon event will be organised at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok and the nearby Benjakitti Public Park on August 12, expected to attract about 20,000 participants and visitors, as part of nationwide celebrations of both Mother's Day and Her Majesty the Queen's 84th birthday anniversary. Besides, the ‎Department of Physical Education announced that it will organise a mass physical exercise event at the Supachalasai National Stadium in the capital on the same day in honour of Her Majesty the Queen, who is respected as the "Mother of Thailand".
