Thailand-made safety system developed for int'l visitors

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) - The public and the private sectors have joined forces in developing a Thailand-made safety system to protect and save the life of international tourists during their travels in the Thai Kingdom. The Thailand-made innovation has been jointly introduced this week by the state-run CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (CAT), the National Innovation Agency (NIA), the Thai Embedded Systems Association (TESA) and Xsense Information Service Co., Ltd. (Xsense). Xsense Managing Director Thitima Suwannarat told journalists that her company has applied its 15-year expertise in the development of an advanced vehicle monitoring system to the development of the safety system for international tourist arrivals in Thailand. Thitima acknowledged the newly-developed safety system comprises of a wristband with a sensor embeded in each life jacket that will send alarming signals to a control and command center, handled by CAT, in order to timely assist the tourist in case of any emergency. Thitima explained that the newly-developed safety system also comprises of two other parts, including the Automatic Identification System, under which the location of a targeted tour boat and surrounding boats, as well as the speed and the navigation funcion of the targeted boat will be detected, and the GPS Vehicle Tracking System, under which real time-video records and a monitoring function of a targeted boat will be shown and will send alarming signals with a precise GPS location of an incident to the control and command center and other relevant agencies simultaneously, namely a nearby hospital, rescue and mitigation unit. Besides, all the functions can be detected and shown in a single monitor, which is another outstanding property of the newly-developed Thailand-made system. CAT President Colonel Sanpachai Huvanandana stated, meanwhile, that CAT has supported the Long-Range Wide Area Network to facilitate the operations and connections of the Thailand-made safety system. The CAT president said that CAT has also supported such other relevant services as daily updates of the official weather forecast and the opening of tourist assistance units at hospitals where interpreters of foreign languages will be stationed to communicate with tourists and relevant foreign agencies whenever necessary. According to the CAT president, the Thailand-made safety system for international tourists will be first launched as a pilot project in such southern coastal Andaman resort provinces as Krabi, Phuket, Phang-nga, Ranong and Satun, where a database of international visitors will also be developed and used to further upgrade local tourist attractions and facilities.
