Thailand to produce rescue robots

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has expressed his admiration to a group of Thai students and professors who had won the World RoboCup Rescue 2016 in Germany, while ordering the Ministries of Science and Technology and Information Communication Technology (ICT) to further develop a prototype of rescue robots for practical use in the real situation. The prime minister made the remarks when President of King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) Theerawut Boonyasophon led a group of the 16 Thai students and professors who earlier won this year's World RoboCup Rescue competition, held in German's Leipzig City, to meet him at Bangkok's Government House on Thursday to boost moral support and encouragement to the Thai youths for bringing fame to the nation. Theerawut said his students had won two prizes at the competition, one for the World RoboCup Rescue 2016, in which Thailand has become the world champion for eight times so far, and the other for robot designs with Best in Class Mobility. While praising the young winners, the prime minister also instructed the Ministries of Science and Technology and ICT to urgently support the further development of Thailand-made rescue robots for practical use in the real situation, as well as for exports to earn the Thai Kingdom more national income.
