Thailand remains world top exporter of jasmine rice

BANGKOK, November 11 (TNA) - Ministry of Commerce reports that Thailand remains the world's top exporter of Hom Mali or jasmine rice during the first nine months of this year, with the total shipment of the locally-grown fragrant grains reaching 1.68 million tonnes during the January-September period. Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn told journalists of the information on Friday, saying that Thailand's exports of Hom Mali or fragrant rice during the first nine months of this year increased by 20 per cent year-on-year. Apiradi noted that major markets for Thai rice exports include the United States, Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Canada. According to the minister, Thai Hom Mali rice had the largest market shares in Hong Kong, the United States and Singapore during the first three quarters of this year. (TNA)
